Waiting for a Hospital Appointment or Treatment

We recognise that waiting for hospital care can be challenging, particularly if you are in discomfort or concerned about your health.

What Is an ‘Expedite’ Letter?

Patients are sometimes advised to ask their GP for an ‘expedite letter’ to try to bring a hospital appointment forward. We completely understand how difficult it can be to wait when you are unwell.

However, hospital teams have advised that these letters are not usually acted upon. Decisions about prioritising appointments are made by hospital specialists, based on clinical need.

If your symptoms have changed or worsened – for example, if you are experiencing increased pain, reduced mobility, or changes in your hearing – it is important to inform the hospital directly. These details can only come from you and help the hospital assess whether your appointment needs to be reviewed.

If you are waiting to be seen by United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) and your condition has changed, please contact your hospital team as soon as possible: Contacting your Outpatient appointment booking team - United Lincolnshire Hospitals
